Welcome to the official beginning of Chicago Summer and Festival Season. We’ve earned it. I think our snow piles finally melted this week.
Here’s your quick run through for activities this Holiday Weekend.
The Big Ones
The Memorial Day Parade is on Saturday at Noon. Start at State and Randolph. Details here.
Navy Pier has lots of activities and this weekend starts the weekend fireworks displays. Fireworks display on Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. Details here.
For the Athletes
Bike the Drive. Ride for 15 miles or 30 miles up and down Lake Shore Drive on Sunday. The lakefront boulevard is handed over to the bicyclists starting at 5:30 am. Mind you, your guide actually believes the universe ceases to exist for a few hours overnight, so 5:30 am does not even occur on a daily basis. Start at Jackson – but people really jump on and off all along the route. www.bikethedrive.org
A little off the wall
The 46th annual marching of the WOOGMS (Wellington Oakdale Old Glory Marching Society) parade kicks off on Monday at 11:00 am from Pine Grove and Wellington and winds its way back and forth on Wellington, Sheridan, Oakdale, Pine Grove and finally back south on Sheridan into Lincoln Park. Details here.
